Today 183 miles heading north, or as close as all the winding rounds would let me.
Leaving Gudvangen I turned left onto the main road and immediately entered an 11 km tunnel, emerged from this for all of a few hundred metres then into another 6 km one.
The main purpose of the morning was to visit Lærdal Tunnel, covered in its own post.
In the photo the central part of the image is all snow/ice. I couldn't workout if this a glacier, I don't think it is, pretty spectacular anyway.

Here is a more wide angle picture of the same location.

For the first time one of the huge cruise liners hove into view. This really shows how dominating the surrounding landscape is.

At a rest stop I spoke to a Dutch couple in a camper van, asking where they were going, "Lofoten Islands" was the answer, also one of my stops. They said they'd been before, but going back again as it's so nice.
Another hour or so later I stopped at another rest halt and heard a cheery "Hello again" as they had also stopped. I followed them for awhile, and finally lost them when I stopped for fuel and a bite to eat.
The traffic tends to flow at the speed limit, which is 80 km/h out of towns. There is no point trying to overtake. Before I came I thought the lorries would be an issue, no, these drivers are amazing and throw their vehicles around like crazy, easily over the speed limit, even up hills. It is the odd camper van that is the issue, but even they are generally over the speed limit.
